How Do Enphase Micro Inverters Work?

There’s a number of microinverter manufacturers aside of Enphase, and if you’re just wondering how microinverters work see our article How Do Micro Inverters Work. Otherwise, if you’re wondering how Enphase microinverters work as part of the full Enphase system, read on.

Enphase Microinverters:

Each of these are installed under your solar panels and are connected by truck cable. There are also AC modules that have the Enphase microinverters pre-attached to the solar panels, making for a faster installation. Each of the microinverters convert DC power to AC power, and send the AC power to your home’s electrical panel (site load center).

Enphase Envoy:

To be able to track your panels’ performance, you’ll need an Enphase Envoy, which is a small communications gateway that collects information about how your system is performing and transmits that information over the Internet to MyEnlighten.

Enphase MyEnlighten:

This is an online software that you can access on your phone, tablet or computer, that transmits information from your Envoy and lets you monitor your system’s performance and provides diagnostic tools.

Enphase AC Batteries:

This is an additional piece that makes sense for some customers and not for others. It is part of the full Enphase system, so we’re including it here. Each allows you to store up to 1.2kWh of excess energy that your solar panels produce during midday and save it to use later in the afternoon and evening when you really need it.
