SolarWorld Warranty Update

Ian Farneth 7/28/2017

SolarWorld Germany's declared insolvency (bankruptcy) has left much of the solar industry speculating on what SolarWorld USA will do to stay in business. Many installers that have been using Solarworld products for years are still interested in installing their modules, but are concerned about the Solarworld Warranty. In response to this, Solarworld USA has released the SolarWorld Assurance Dual Warranty. This new warranty program supplements SolarWorld’s standard product warranty, is backed by an A-rated 3rd party company, and is offered at no cost to the owner.

The SolarWorld Dual Warranty is a 3rd-party backed 15-year extended warranty that begins when the original warranty expires or in the event the original warranty cannot be supported providing up to a 25-year combined module warranty. This warranty covers SolarWorld USA modules in systems ranging from 3-20kW that have been installed after 1/1/2017. This warranty is available in US, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Latin and South America.

The Dual Warranty is covered by an "A"-rated 3rd-party company. The third party company has been rated by a U.S. nationally recognized statistical rating organization (NRSRO) that focuses on the insurance industry. Their designation has been granted by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Some examples of material workmanship and defects that are covered by the Dual Warranty are: bad diodes; delamination; bad solder joints; connector failures; and frame damage (not the result of mishandling or improper installation).
