For Renvu customers we offer three options for permitting: PE Stamps, Single Line Diagram, and our Full Permit Package. The article below goes into depth on each of these offerings and common questions.
What Are My Permitting Options?
PE Stamps - Renvu offers two types of Professional Engineer Stamps: structural and electric. These stamps act as a certification issued by an engineer for either structural or electrical designs.
Single Line Diagram - This is a diagram that illustrates the basic electrical setup of the solar system.
Full Permit Package - Our Full Permit Package includes diagrams of the solar arrayment and racking on the house, the Single Line Diagram, and spec sheets on all the equipment included in the system. The Permit Package does not include the PE Stamps. Please see our sample for more details.
How Do I Know Which Permitting Option I Need?
The best way to know what permitting certifications you need for your project is to get in touch with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), which refers to your local city or county. In general, most residential projects will commonly require documents included in our full permit package. PE Stamps are not often required for residential projects, we highly recommend confirming with your local city or county before purchasing.
How Long Does Permitting Take?
Permitting is a process that goes through both our sales team and engineering team. It requires information about your system, that our sales team then passes along to our engineers. For a full list of information required for each permitting option, please see our article on requirements. From there the engineers create the design and our sales team works with them to edit the details until it’s tailored to all the specs of your custom system. Each of these time estimates are subject to change based on the complexity and size of the system.
Single Line Diagram - about 2 days
Full Permit Package - about 3 days (requires location)
Structural PE Stamp - about 5 days (requires pictures of the building/rafters)
Electrical PE Stamp - about 5 days
How Much Does Permitting Cost?
Each permit option cost depends on the size of the system. Please log in to see prices for each option.
